U.S. Banks Urge Congress to Close Deal on Debt-Limit Debate
Wednesday, July 27, 2011
My response to a Democrat still infatuated with this prick Obama
If you want peace stop paying for these dirty wars.
Raising the debt ceiling is being done to pay for these wars.
Harry Reid let the cat out of the bag when he said he was prepared to compromise on funding these wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for the NEXT TEN YEARS on a more frugal budget.
As far as Social Security, Kim. Let me give you an "analogy." Wall Street has wanted to get its dirty, filthy, greedy clutches on the Social Security Trust Fund for years just like the mobsters and the Wall Street vultures control the union pension funds.
The privatization of the Social Security Trust Fund in the hands of Wall Street "managers" is what is at stake here.
Already, Congress and the Presidents have robbed the Social Security Trust Fund to pay for their rotten imperialist wars and now they don't want to pay the Social Security Trust Fund back--- Obama's intent is to turn the Trust Fund over to Wall Street the same way he did with health care through his "Affordable Health Care Act" which should be called, "The Health Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industry Bailout and Profit Maximization Act of 2010."
And, by the way, here is another "analogy" for you. Obama made it mandatory for everyone to purchase Health Insurance from these greedy Wall Street vultures because this sets up a precedent: People will be able to be forced through legislation to pay into Wall Street owned, controlled and administered pension funds. Bye, bye Social Security.

Elizabeth Warren says, "Don't blame Obama, blame the Republicans..." Give me a break already. Obama has to go.
What we need is a new political party in this country bringing together liberals, progressives and the left with peace at the very top of the agenda.
All this "blame the Republicans" crap makes me sick. Obama could have taken care of all of this while there was a Democratic majority in the House and Senate and if he had done what he had led people to believe he would do if elected there would still be a Democratic majority in the House and Senate.
The fact is, we are caught in this two-party trap created by Wall Street just for such times.
We need to free ourselves from this two-party trap once and for all.

What is wrong with the populist sounding analysis of "our economic dilemma" coming from Robert Reich
1. This war economy impacts the economy negatively in a very major and fundamental way.
2. These wars kill jobs the same way they kill people.
3. Robert Reich refuses to acknowledge that the way to create jobs is by putting people to work through massive government programs that are created to solve the problems of the people.
An example of #3 woulds be a National Public Health Care System which would create around ten-million new jobs providing the American people with free health care for much less than wars and militarism cost us.
Robert Reich does a good job as far as he goes but it is intellectually dishonest of him to leave militarism and wars out of his "analysis."
Robert Reich, who is obviously on his way to support Obama, again, this time for re-election, as he tones down his criticisms of Obama's handling of the economy while NEVER having criticized Obama's militarism and wars which have played a major part in just what Reich says he laments: making the rich richer as these Wall Street coupon clippers profit from militarism and wars and these wars are the primary contributor to our Nation's debt which is one more aspect of what makes the rich, richer since the Wall Street bankers profit from this debt through the interest charged.
Robert Reich has failed to note here, or anyplace else, how paying these interest rates on this debt requires "austerity measures" which further impoverishes us all.
How can what amounts to dumping our Nation's wealth into the deepest depths of the oceans not have a major impact on our "economic dilemma?"
I think this should be further discussed before Robert Reich's analysis is accepted as fact and truth when it would appear he has intentionally left out the most important and fundamental reason for what he correctly calls it: our economic dilemma.
When people like Robert Reich provide such shallow thinking intentionally leaving out the most important fact we should be challenging him not just passing this information along without questioning and comment.
There is, in fact, an organized attempt being made to make it appear that we can discuss our economic problems by leaving militarism and these wars out of the equation; we can't if we want to solve "our economic dilemma."
I would challenge Robert Reich or anyone else to explain how we can solve our "economic dilemma" without peace.
With this video by Robert Reich we see the dishonesty we get from Obama and his supporters. Of course, these wars are Barack Obama's Achilles' Heel so the reason why the real cost of these wars and how they negatively impact and are major contributors to "our economic dilemma" seem rather obvious--- again we get misinformation rather than the cold hard truth that these wars are killing jobs just like they kill people and workers without jobs are going to be poor as will those employed who have austerity measures imposed on them they will become impoverished even though they work--- often two or even three jobs.
I do not argue that Reich's views should not be distributed but these views that are very typical of Democrats who think they can talk about "our economic dilemma" without confronting the impacts of militarism and wars for political expediency are simply dishonest and wrong. Come to think of it, this is why we have a peace movement in the first place which organized labor's leaders, like Robert Reich, want to remain aloof from.
These wars and our economic woes are inseparably linked.
Just ask anyone:
How is Barack Obama's Wall Street war economy working for you?

The truth is finally coming out as to what "compromise" over the Minnesota budget will consist of
SALES TAX EXPANSION
Minnesota is somewhat unusual in that it doesn't tax clothing sales. Expanding the tax base to include such items could bring more than $600 million over two years, according to a 2010 Minnesota Department of Revenue estimate. Expand the sales tax to food, and new revenue increases by more than $1.4 billion, according to the same estimate.
Still, it's a hard sell in the Legislature, where some lawmakers will argue that such sales taxes are regressive.
The eventual "compromise" between Dayton and the Republicans and the Summit Hill Democrats will most definitely include:
1. Higher property taxes
2. An expansion of sales taxes most likely to food and clothing.
Waiting "until" the "compromise" takes place will be a disaster.
If we want real reforms based upon "tax-the-rich" which goes beyond a nice campaign cliche to elect weal liberal Democrats like Mark Dayton we need a powerful movement--- some kind of massive "People's Lobby" capable of making these politicians understand that there are real consequences to heaping regressive tax policies on us under the guise of "compromise."
The obvious "consequence" these politicians, including Dayton, must be made to understand is that they will be defeated at the polls by people's politicians who will implement real progressive "tax-the-rich" policies designed to redistribute the wealth through meaningful universal social programs.
As MPR states, only a very few state legislators will decry this "compromise" to come as "regressive" so it is up to Minnesotans to to take the required action to defend their own interests.

A FaceBook friend asks me why I am "soft" on the Republicans
It really isn't my responsibility to engage in an attack on the Republicans when so many of you are doing such a fine job of this as you fail to "hold Obama's feet to the fire" as all of you liberals, progressives and leftists who supported him promised you would do but never found the time to strike the match to light this fire and keep it stoked.
Furthermore, myself and our Organizing Council and Organizing Committees have been busy bringing forward real solutions to very specific problems creating havoc and misery comprising a crisis of everyday living for just about every single working class family making up the entire working class--- now, may I ask YOU why you haven't taken up support for our alternative to Wall Street's agenda of continual and perpetual wars of occupation financed through these terribly repressive and reactionary austerity measures pushed by BOTH Democrats and Republicans as vigorously as what we have done with very limited resources?
Here is our program for real change which I made available to over 2,400 participants at the recent Netroots Nation 2011 national conference convened in Minneapolis, Minnesota--- now, I ask you: How many of these self-avowed "progressive" and "professional leftists" do you see writing and commenting about this most basic and fundamental program geared to responding to the crisis Wall Street and its Democratic and Republican Party politicians have orchestrated:
A program for real change...
* Peace--- end the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya and shutdown the 800 U.S. military bases on foreign soil.
* A National Public Health Care System - ten million new jobs.
* A National Public Child Care System - three to five million new jobs.
* Works Progress Administration - three million new jobs.
* Civilian Conservation Corps - two million new jobs.
* Tax the hell out of the rich and cut the military budget by ending the wars to pay for it all which will create full employment.
* Enforce Affirmative Action; end discrimination.
* Raise the minimum wage to a real living wage
* What tax-payers subsidize in the way of businesses, tax-payers should own and reap the profits from.
* Moratorium on home foreclosures and evictions.
* Defend democracy by defending workers' rights including the right to collective bargaining for improving the lives and livelihoods of working people.
* Roll-back and freeze the price of food, electricity, gas and heating fuels; not wages, benefits or pensions.
* Wall Street is our enemy.
How is Barack Obama's Wall Street war economy working for you?
Let's talk about the politics and economics of livelihood for a real change.
Come on Debbie; how often are you throwing this program in Obama's face?
How many Democrats have you told that this is what you expect from them?
I know just about every single state legislator--- Democrat and Republican--- in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan and I know Barack Obama on a personal basis and I shove this program under their noses at each and every opportunity I get so ALL these politicians are fully aware of where I stand--- are they aware of where you stand?
May I ask you another question, Debbie?
Have you ever taken the time to write or call or talk to any politician face-to-face about the plight of the more than two-million American workers forced to work in these loud, noisy, smoke-filled casinos dropping dead left and right from second-hand smoke induced cancers, heart and lung diseases and diabetes who all work for poverty wages without any rights protected under state or federal labor laws like all other workers which assure these workers have no rights in the communities where they live as Democrats reap more in campaign contributions from these casino profits than what any Native American Indian community or reservation benefits from--- all under the guise of a perverted and most racist form of "sovereignty" enforced by these "Compacts" created by the Democrats who don't file as having received campaign contributions from "sovereign" foreign Nations?
Please feel free to check out my blog keeping in mind that it is my job to be the best voice possible for the rank-and-file casino workers whose dues pay my salary and I have never received one single complaint about how I do this job from one single casino worker paying my salary and until I do I don't intend to contemplate altering how I write and speak for anyone--- certainly not this Wall Street flim-flam man and con artist who intends to reap over a billion dollars for his re-election campaign from the likes of the Fertitta Family and the attorneys and lobbyists employed by Brownstein/Hyatt/Farber/Sc
Here is my blog for you to examine. Feel free to use its "search" feature to enter "Republican" or "George Bush" and let all the FaceBook readers know what you conclude as to how "soft" I am on the Republicans:

What kind of "labor solidarity" rally has been planned by the AFL-CIO in the name of "Hands Across Borders?"
Sunday, June 12, 2011
The question we need to keep asking...
How is Barack Obama's Wall Street war economy working for you?
- Ask this question in letters to the editor.
- Post it on your refrigerator, on bulletin boards at work, in churches and community centers.
- Use it on protest signs at vigils and demonstrations.
Most people will tell you that this economy is not working very well for them. After finding out why it isn't working very well for them we can begin to put together a program to turn this country around in creating the kind of country we really want.
This is such a basic and fundamental question as we approach the 2012 Elections that it is dishonest to be engaged in politics not asking this question of the American people.

A FaceBook Discussion with an Obama supporter
http://my.firedoglake.com/alanmaki/2011/06/05/a-facebook-discussion-with-an-obama-supporter/
By: AlanMaki Sunday June 5, 2011 5:17 am Rob Schmidt You can vote for whoever you want, but no one more liberal than Obama will be elected in 2012. Vote for Mickey Mouse if it makes you feel good. Alan L. Maki Rob; the problem is: Obama is a thoroughly reactionary neo-liberal like Ronald Reagan; not a liberal like Paul Wellstone. I could understand you saying something like: No one less reactionary than Obama is going to be elected in 2012, which would be a more truthful statement— although, still, a third party challenge by honest liberals, progressives and leftists could very well deprive Obama the presidency in a closely contested election. I assume you know that a third party getting 5% to 7% of the vote could destroy any chance— which is slim to nothing— Obama has for a second term. Being able to deprive a major candidate from public office is, in itself, power. With Obama in the race and all the Republicans stating and declaring themselves to be Ronald Reagan clones, this gives the American people the choice of: Ronald Reagan #1; or, Ronald Reagan #2. I assume you saw the Time magazine cover with Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama as the best of chums with similar world views? I do think it is very possible for Cynthia McKinney and Cindy Sheehan— or anyone of them with another popular peace activist on the ticket with a progressive program for real change— to get over 5% of the vote; and I think this really scares you Obama supporters who have nothing of substance to take to the voters as far as Obama’s “accomplishments;” among them: three wars with a big confrontation in the Philippines on the horizon and quite possibly in Puerto Rico with unmanned drone attacks and “kills” in Pakistan and Yemen; soaring prices of food, gas and home-heating fuels; massive unemployment; rising home foreclosures and evictions; and, the most “coveted” prize of all which everyone is coming to “love” so much the more they find out what it really is, the “Health Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industry Bail-out and Profit Maximization Act of 2010″ which Obama and the Democrats like to call the “Affordable Health Care Act of 2010″ which is anything but “affordable” for most Americans. You know, Rob; I really don’t know what would happen if you get a couple of honest and principled peace activists going around the country asking the American people: How is Barack Obama’s Wall Street war economy working for you? Do you want to vote for more of the same? I see all you sock-puppets for Obama are now claiming that the presidency isn’t all that important; it is, you claim, the make-up of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate that matters the most— well, then, keep saying this and it might add another 10% to 20% to a “peace vote.” After all, the American people just might be ready to say, “Give peace a chance” after looking over Ronald Reagan #1 and Ronald Reagan #2. Quite frankly; voting for Mickey and Minnie Mouse makes a heck of a lot more sense than voting for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Rising prices of food and gas spell defeat at the polls for Obama and the Democrats
Democrats have failed to halt the rising prices and they will pay dearly for this inaction at the polls.
It won't be long before the Tea Party and Republican demagogues use these issues and make use of popular prejudices and use false claims and promises in order to gain power if government action isn't taken to roll-back and freeze the prices of food and gas which make everyday living a crisis for most working class families.

Obama Administration Opposes Challenges to Medicaid Cuts
By ROBERT PEAR
Published: May 28, 2011
WASHINGTON — Medicaid recipients and health care providers cannot sue state officials to challenge cuts in Medicaid payments, even if such cuts compromise access to health care for poor people, the Obama administration has told the Supreme Court.
Neal K. Katyal, the acting solicitor general, filed a brief with the Supreme Court.
States around the country, faced with severe budget problems, have been reducing Medicaid rates for doctors, dentists, hospitals, pharmacies, nursing homes and other providers.
Federal law says Medicaid rates must be “sufficient to enlist enough providers” so that Medicaid recipients have access to care to the same extent as the general population in an area.
In a friend-of-the court brief filed Thursday in the Supreme Court, the Justice Department said that no federal law allowed private individuals to sue states to enforce this standard.
Such lawsuits “would not be compatible” with the means of enforcement envisioned by Congress, which relies on the secretary of health and human services to make sure states comply, the administration said in the brief, by the acting solicitor general, Neal K. Katyal.
In many parts of the country, payment rates are so low that Medicaid recipients have difficulty finding doctors to take them.
But, the Justice Department said, the Medicaid law’s promise of equal access to care is “broad and nonspecific,” and federal health officials are better equipped than judges to balance that goal with other policy objectives, like holding down costs.
The administration expressed its views in a set of cases consolidated under the name Douglas v. Independent Living Center of Southern California, No. 09-958.
In 2008 and 2009, the California Legislature passed several laws reducing Medicaid payment rates. Recipients and providers challenged the cuts in court, arguing that the California plan violated — and was pre-empted by — the federal Medicaid statute.
The law does not explicitly allow such lawsuits. But the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in San Francisco, said beneficiaries and providers could sue under the supremacy clause of the Constitution, which makes federal law “the supreme law of the land.” In reducing payment rates, the appeals court said, California violated the requirements of federal Medicaid law and threatened access to “much-needed medical care.”
California appealed to the Supreme Court, which is likely to hear oral arguments in the fall, with a decision by next spring.
Consumer advocates were dismayed by the administration’s position, which they said undermined Medicaid recipients’ rights and access to the courts.
“I find it appalling that the solicitor general in a Democratic administration would assert in a Supreme Court brief that businesses can challenge state regulation under the supremacy clause, but that poor recipients of Medicaid cannot challenge state violations of federal law,” said Prof. Timothy S. Jost, an expert on health law at Washington and Lee University, who is usually sympathetic to the administration.
Representative Henry A. Waxman of California, the senior Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee and an architect of Medicaid, said the administration’s brief was “wrong on the law and bad policy.”
“I am bitterly disappointed that President Obama would accept the position of the acting solicitor general to file a brief that is contrary to the decades-long practice of giving Medicaid beneficiaries and providers the ability to turn to the courts to enforce their rights under federal law,” Mr. Waxman said. He said that he and other Democratic lawmakers planned to file a brief opposing the administration’s view.
By contrast, many state officials agree with California and the Obama administration.
The National Governors Association and the National Conference of State Legislatures filed a friend-of-the-court brief endorsing California’s position that Medicaid recipients and providers could not sue.
In a separate friend-of-the-court brief, Michigan and 30 other states went further. “Allowing ‘supremacy clause lawsuits’ to enforce federal Medicaid laws will be a financial catastrophe for states,” they said.
Medicaid is financed jointly by the federal government and the states. The number of recipients and the costs increased sharply in the recent recession and will increase further with the expected addition of 16 million people to the rolls under the new federal health care law.
A version of this article appeared in print on May 29, 2011, on page A23 of the New York edition with the headline: Administration Opposes Challenges to Medicaid Cuts.

Repeal the "Affordable Care Act"
There is nothing "affordable" with Obama's "Affordable Care Act" which in reality should have been named the "Health Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industry Bailout And Profit Maximization Act of 2010." What we need is a working class based peoples' party to enact a National Public Health Care System--- everyone in/nobody out financed by a peace dividend, taxing the rich and a payroll tax.

Enough!
Governor Dayton,
First of all I want to say that I agree with the above comment about saving the wild rice because by saving the wild rice from destruction we are protecting human health and saving ourselves, too. Plus, you and the DFL talk a lot about "jobs, jobs, jobs" and "business, business, business;" yet, in the wild rice there are many jobs being created through environmentally friendly real "green" businesses. I think it is deplorable you have not publicly scolded DFL State Senator Tom Bakk for tacking on this racist, anti-jobs, anti-small business environmentally irresponsible rider to this legislation that is part and parcel of a long-standing campaign of genocide against First Nations Peoples. You call yourself a liberal, Governor Dayton. Do what a good liberal would do and show some leadership in standing up to racism, for jobs and for a "green" economy.
Now---
Run this by the tax-cutting, anti-tax, "fiscally responsible" Republicans, the DFL business caucus and the DFL Summit Hill Club:
When people are unemployed they shouldn't have to pay any taxes--- income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes. A government that can't organize a full-employment economy while there is so much needed to be done doesn't deserve the support of unemployed workers.
Tell the Republicans to forgo their legislative salaries and become "volunteers."
Get on the phone to Obama and tell him to end these dirty wars and send the money to Minnesota.
Tax the casinos to resolve the state's debt.
Come on, man, stand up for your liberal ideals. Get a back-bone.
These budget battles are a reflection of our true priorities.
End the wars; don't just tax-the-rich--- tax-the-hell out of the rich.
Stop playing games with these Republicans and business Democrats from the DFL Business Caucus and the Summit Hill Club.
Gather together a "People's Lobby" in support of a "People's Budget."
Get the Minnesota AFL-CIO to get people on buses from every county... bring in liberal, progressive and left-minded Minnesotans to deck these Republicans and the wealthy elite of the Democratic Party.
Stand up and fight for your liberal beliefs; no compromises with these greedy pigs who want to feed at the public trough and then cry about "fiscal responsibility."
There is only one way Minnesotans are going to get jobs and that is when you turn the State of Minnesota into the employer of first choice putting the unemployed to work solving the pressing problems of the people.
You also might consider joining with those of us looking for a working class based peoples party as an alternative to the thoroughly rotten and corrupt Minnesota Democratic Farmer-Labor Party.
By the way; why was Ken Martin, the head of the Minnesota DFL, in Iowa campaigning against Tim Pawlenty when he should have been right here in Minnesota standing at your side mobilizing to defeat the filthy rich?
You are now traveling across Minnesota talking with Minnesotans. Great! This is what Jeffersonian democracy is supposed to be all about.
Let me suggest that you ask each and every Minnesotan a very basic and fundamental question which you can convey their answers to your buddy, Barack Obama:
How is Barack Obama's Wall Street war economy working for you?
If you get as far north as Warroad, stop on in; the coffee is always on and there are some chocolate chip cookies my grand-kids made to munch on.
Maybe over coffee and cookies we can discuss why you have reneged on our agreement; we supported you, and you haven't fulfilled your end of the deal--- we need to know why; it's all about accountability. Between a "red" Finn and a good liberal I'm sure you understand what I am getting at.
