Can we counter the mis-education and lies spread by the corporate mainstream media (MSM)?

This was my response to a FaceBook posting concerning this question…

I agree. We need to organize movements that include education, organization and united action.

For the last couple years I have traveled extensively across the Midwest tabling with leaflets, petitions, books and pamphlets; this kind of thing used to be done all the time by peace and social justice organizations on a regular basis at supermarkets, farmer markets, at union meetings and after church. Most people told me they had not seen peace activists tabling for years. What has happened to door-to-door leafleting by peace and social justice organizations?

The Internet for sure with blogs, websites and social networking like FaceBook certainly has a part in the educational and organizational process... but, it is no substitute to getting out and talking to people face to face in in small groups around kitchen tables.

People don't understand the power of small groups of people working together. Three or four people who are consistent and persistent in peace and social justice education and organization can have a major impact in a small to medium sized community.

Letters to the editor can be written by a few people--- 200 to 250 word letters--- when written by several people can make a very educational point and together such letters can be turned into leaflets with suggestions for things people can do.
Often by going and sitting down and talking with the editor or publisher of a local newspaper they will print longer opinion pieces of up to 750 to 1,200 words... such pieces read by hundreds or thousands can educate a lot of people and be the catalyst to getting them thinking.

We really can't blame people for being uneducated about issues living in a society controlled by a group of very wealthy people who spare no amount of resources hiring thousands of people to do nothing else except spread lies and misinformation under the guise of facts and the truth.
