A new party is needed; what kind?

Alan L. Maki

I agree we need another party in this country... a political party that will advance the agenda of the historic liberal/progressive/left coalition that needs to be consolidated and strengthened right now around solving the problems of working people and the number one problem for working people is these wars which are killing our jobs just like they kill people while impoverishing us as people and a nation by robbing us of the resources we need for things like a national public health care system and a national public childcare system.

I'm not a fan of Dennis Kucinich... he is exploring possibilities of running with Ron Paul who is nothing but a racist bigot and John Bircher. Kucinich demonstrated to me, anyways, that he doesn't have the stamina to stand up under pressure when he caved to Obama on healthcare reform.

I voted for Cynthia McKinney and seeing how Obama has turned out I am glad I did.

Personally, I would like to see a 2012 slate of Cynthia McKinney and Cindy Sheehan... but whoever liberals, progressives and the left choose to run will be fine with me just so the candidates are going to stand up for peace.

As far as what kind of alternative party I think we need... I think liberals, progressives and the left would do well looking at the Canadian New Democratic Party as an example to follow--- a labor-based peoples' party. The best party working people in this country have ever had was the Minnesota Farmer-Labor Party which elected two Socialist governors and Communist to Congress--- liberals, progressives and the left working together to solve the problems of working people is what I would like to see.
